It’s the revenue, Stupid!
Police are becoming frustrated with iPhone user’s new found ability to avoid speed traps, traffic cams, and checkpoints. We read about the D.C. police chief who says that these people are cowards. In her condemning remarks she said,
“I think that’s the whole point of this program,” she told The Examiner. “It’s designed to circumvent law enforcement — law enforcement that is designed specifically to save lives.”
At least this moron is partially correct. Yes, it is designed to circumvent law enforcement. She is, however, pathetic in her assertion that traffic enforcement (what she calls law enforcement) is designed to save lives: she is dead wrong (pardon the pun). The state doesn’t give a rip about whether you live or die: the state is looking for ways to take more of your money! Perhaps at some point, definitely before I was born, traffic enforcement was intended to save lives; now it is for nothing but revenue. States, after wasting their tax revenue are increasingly looking to traffic enforcement to make up for their irresponsible budget deficits. Here in Greenville, SC, the tax collectors are in the form of the Highway Patrol, sherriff deputies, and local police. Their tools are: (1) unrealistically low speed limits, (2) speed traps, (3) cameras, (4) check points, and other tools to shakedown drivers on their way to work. So, thank God for iPhones, which now can inspire a web of traffic montitor-monitors who can help innocent drivers avoid becoming more of a prey to the state.
Keep in mind though, that the government is not the only entity that profits through its network of armed tax collectors: the insurance companies really rake in the cash. Knowing that driving is a necessity of life, state governments have taken upon themselves to make insurance mandatory. They have taken upon themselves to select who can sell insurance in the state. using the force of law, states have compelled us to enrich the ultra-wealthy cronies of legislators and bureaucrats by imposing what amounts to a compulsory tax that benefits private corporations. The result? Exhorbitant insurance rates even for those of us who have a good driving record! The “cowards” this pathetic piece of trash police chief speaks of are aware that after being shaken down by state-sponsored police thugs, that they will be shaken down even more by their insurance company. Insurance companies are looking for any excuse to raise rates… after all, they are guaranteed a market regardless of what they choose to charge… and they will do so liberally when they find out you got a ticket for driving 60 in a 35. I despise the state for taking the money from me that they already do. I almost despise the insurance racquet more because - while the state just rapes you once – they will rape you for years to come, based on the fact that you got raped by the state!
So, you disgusting government thugs, rather than shaking down motorists to close budget gaps, why not just lower spending? Stop preying upon the innocent citizens and start making responsible decisions in government (fat chance of that ever happening!). Leave us alone! Until you do, though, we are going to do everything we can to keep you from taking our money!
