Greenville County Council AGAIN goes green (money green that is)

Keeping a longstanding tradition alive, Greenville County Council voted to screw the people of Greenville by approving massive high-density residential development on a road that (thanks to Greenville County Council) is already horrendously over used.

Greenville County Council approved at least 360 apartments just off Woodruff Road Tuesday over the objection of a raucous crowd of dozens that heckled council members throughout a contentious debate, approving 8-4 a project that developers say will accompany a list of road improvements in the notoriously congested area.

Opponents said the work isn’t near adequate because even minimal additions to Woodruff traffic exacerbates a nightmare.

Though not allowed to speak in the lengthy council session, citizens repeatedly shouted down council members who supported the project over the gavelling of Chairman Butch Kirven.

Kirven, Jim Burns, Cort Flint and Xanthene Norris opposed the apartment project. The rest of council voted in favor. After the approval, the crowd filed out, and some shouted “Hope your pockets are lined,” and “See you next election.”

This pretty much sums it up. County Council goes for the cash cow and (as usual) does not care about the well being of the citizens of Greenville County. See, right now people are angry and say that they will vote council out at election time. Unfortunately, Greenville County Council KNOWS that they will get re-elected by the same citizens who are wearing “KICK ME” signs on their backs. The attention span of voters is about 10 minutes.

Pretty soon the pathetic fools of Greenville County will be dutifully wasting their lives sitting idle in traffic on Woodruff Road while Council will be somewhere else investing the money they earned in bribes, kickback schemes, andby catering to lobbyists.

I’ve said it before: Developers should be compelled to finance an adequate expansion of surrounding infrastructure as part of any approval for development. The people of Greenville are forced to pay the cost for the profit-making enterprises of greedy developers.

Oh yeah… remember it was only supposed to be 360 residences?? Greenville County Council voluntarily upped this to 540 units… JUST TO RUB IT IN THE FACE OF THE CITIZENS COUNCIL IS SUPPOSED TO SERVE.

The zoning change opens the door to 540 units on roughly 27 acres at Rocky Creek and Bagwell roads one block off Woodruff
