US *may* spend more on domestic security than on AIDS in Africa

Although many folks in America seem to have no problem footing Bush’s $50 billion Africa AIDS program, some seem quite unhappy with the ballooning cost of our own domestic security initiatives. Remember that ol’ virtual fence that was dismantled as a total disaster?  Well, that’s just par for the course! Everything ALWAYS costs more than what the profiteering contractors say. They keep sucking in the cash straight from Americans’ wallets and they don’t give a blast if what they are selling us works or not!

The Dept. of Homeland Security inspector general says that the high-tech “virtual fence” on the Mexican border is likely to cost not $2 billion but as much as $30 billion, The Washington Post reports.

The problem with the plan to deploy sensors, cameras and drones is likely to suffer runaway costs because the project doesn’t have defined objectives and contracting staff is overstretched.

Let’s cut out the AIDS funding for Africa and use it to enrich the ultra-wealthy defense contractors instead.
