Mormon, Shmormon
I saw Hugh Hewitt rambling on about whether Christians should vote for a Mormon. Give me a break folks! First, I am of the opinion that very few “Christians” really are indeed what a Christian is supposed to be. Therefore, I consider “Christian” to refer to a particular socio-political faction of our country.
“Christians” are not dangerous. In fact, “Christians” in America are one of the sissiest, weakest, ineffective segments of our society. Why is that? It’s because they all want to be by themselves. They look for ways to differentiate themselves from each other and therefore cannot amass enough clout to really change anything.
This business about voting for a Mormon is along the lines that we’ve seen before. The thinking follows a pattern similar to this one: Mormonism is a cult and we can’t support a cult. I’ve said it before: anyone who is a Mormon is likely to have serious issues. The Mormon church believes some really wacky things and - don’t forget - that Mormonism is nearly synonymous with polygamy.
That many “Christians” will eschew Romney for the Mormon issue alone is plausible, yet inexplicable. From the polygamous standpoint, Mitt Romney has the fewest wives of the top Republican contenders. There’s no evidence that he’s been involved in incest. There’s really no evidence of moral lapses or character flaws. Therefore, Romney is automatically better by general principle than every living human being that calls himself a “Democrat.”
The question about Mormonism is moot. The man should be evaluated on the basis of his qualification and suitability for the country. As for “Christians,” I wish they’d get over some of their inter-sect rivalry and get together to effect some change in this country.
