More tax money going to bail out the wealthy

Monday, March 31st, 2008

What happens when the Federal Government takes over banks who have gone “into the red?” (1) Wealthy investors get to reclaim the money they lost through risky transactions, and (2) the American taxpayer gets screwed. Wow! That sounds familiar folks!! For almost everything done by the government, wealthy people gain, and the working people lose. I think it’s way past time to take our country back folks!

…Oh - and - by the way - since WHEN does the United States of America have to look to Norway for help in solving problems?

Fed eyes Nordic-style nationalisation of US banks

By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard, International Business Editor
Last Updated: 2:58pm BST 31/03/2008

The US Federal Reserve is examining the Nordic bank nationalisations of the 1990s as a possible interim solution to the US financial crisis.

The Fed has been criticised for its rescue of Bear Stearns, which critics say has degenerated into a taxpayer gift to rich bankers

The Fed has been criticised for its rescue of Bear Stearns, which critics say has degenerated into a taxpayer gift to rich bankers.

A senior official at one of the Scandinavian central banks told The Daily Telegraph that Fed strategists had stepped up contacts to learn how Norway, Sweden and Finland managed their traumatic crisis from 1991 to 1993, which brought the region’s economy to its knees.

It is understood that Fed vice-chairman Don Kohn remains very concerned by the depth of the US crisis and is eyeing the Nordic approach for contingency options.

Scandinavia’s bank rescue proved successful and is now a model for central bankers, unlike Japan’s drawn-out response, where ailing banks were propped up in a half-public limbo for years.

While the responses varied in each Nordic country, there a was major effort to avoid the sort of “moral hazard” that has bedevilled efforts by the Fed and the Bank of England in trying to stabilise their banking systems.

Norway ensured that shareholders of insolvent lenders received nothing and the senior management was entirely purged. Two of the country’s top four banks - Christiania Bank and Fokus - were seized by force majeure.

“We were determined not to get caught in the game we’ve seen with Bear Stearns where shareholders make money out of the rescue,” said one Norwegian adviser.

“The law was amended so that we could take 100pc control of any bank where its equity had fallen below zero. Shareholders were left with nothing. It was very controversial,” he said.

Upgrade to Wordpress 2.5!

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Tonight we decided to upgrade the TIW Blog to version 2.5. How’d it go? It went OK. The only problem we encountered was that pesky little “Internal Server Error 500.” That was created every time the “save” button was clicked. Turns out the error was caused by an incompatible plug-in. If you’re having issues along these lines I suggest that you begin by deactivating all plug-ins and then re-activate them one by one until you find the one that causes the 500 error on your server.

Other than that, all went well. Welcome aboard the latest version of the TIW Blog!!

Irresponsible Home Buyers to Cost $600 Billion!

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Just before you start defending your risky real estate ventures by saying that “it doesn’t hurt anyone,” think again. A new report puts the cost of irresponsible real estate deals at up to $600 billion!

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - The financial market crisis could cause losses of up to $600 billion at banks and other financial institutions worldwide, a German magazine reported on Saturday, citing an internal report by German financial watchdog BaFin. The $600 billion figure represents a worst-case scenario for losses linked to the financial turmoil sparked by the meltdown in the U.S. subprime mortgage market, Der Spiegel magazine said in a story released in advance of publication on Monday. “Based on current knowledge and the market situation, we believe $430 billion is more likely,” the magazine quoted what it said was a 16-page report by BaFin as saying. BaFin calculated that banks had already acknowledged about $295 billion in losses, of which Germany accounted for around 10 percent, the magazine said. Extrapolating from this percentage, German banks could suffer $60 billion in losses in the worst case and $43 billion in the more favorable scenario, the magazine added. However, the magazine also said BaFin cited the risk that the financial crisis could spread beyond the banking sector to affect hedge funds, insurance companies, pension funds and even some non-financial companies.

Who then should bear the brunt of this expense so irresponsible people can get off without paying a dime? Us. I mean people who pay taxes to the oppressive American Federal Government. That’s who. Makes me sick.

Jihadists outnumber Catholics

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

You all better get downright happy with Jihad ‘cuz Jihad is the future! More Jihadists are now roaming the earth than Roman Catholics!  Considering that Roman Catholics aren’t exactly interested in the best things for humanity, we have a really scary predicament on our hands. I’m predicting a critical shortage of suicide belts in the near future!

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Islam has overtaken Roman Catholicism as the biggest single religious denomination in the world, the Vatican said on Sunday.

Monsignor Vittorio Formenti, who compiled the Vatican’s newly-released 2008 yearbook of statistics, said Muslims made up 19.2 percent of the world’s population and Catholics 17.4 percent.

“For the first time in history we are no longer at the top: the Muslims have overtaken us,” Formenti told Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano in an interview, saying the data referred to 2006.

He said that if all Christian groups were considered, including Orthodox churches, Anglicans and Protestants, then Christians made up 33 percent of the world’s population — or about 2 billion people.

The Vatican recently put the number of Catholics in the world at 1.13 billion people. It did not provide a figure for Muslims, generally estimated at around 1.3 billion.

How Reagan and the USA ended the Iran-Iraq war.

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

Many people don’t remember this, or just don’t understand the importance of it: Ronald Reagan ended the Iran-Iraq war.  Although the Democrats hate America, it’s America that has most often fought for peace.

Obama HUSSEIN’s preacher: HYPOCRITE

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

OK, you have a point. So what’s so freaking new about having a hateful man in a pulpit? Nothing. What’s so freaking new about having a hypocrite in a pulpit? Nothing. Just normal. What’s so freaking new about having a “preacher” living head and shoulders above the average parishioner? Not a whole lot.

So this really isn’t news when I tell you how Obama HUSSEIN’s “pastor” is building a $1.6 million home.  So much for being one with the people!  So much for his respect and concern for the members of his church.  He’s moving up and moving out on their backs… the people who he’s supposed to serve. How disgusting!  - But not news.  Where in America anyway is religion any different?

Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” stands up to scrutiny

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

Radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh has been telling his audience for days now that he could be indicted for encouraging Ohio Republicans to take a Democratic ballot in the March 4 primary in what he calls “Operation Chaos.”Could that actually happen?

Not likely, Ohio officials say.

The typical Democrat fascist double standard: they can do whatever they would like, but - as soon as a Conservative says or does something similar - they start to complain.

The Democrat news media chose the Republican candidate, so what’s wrong with Rush’s decision to choose the Democrat candidate?

Windows XP Service Pack 3!

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

For those of us who have refused to move to the unstable, inferior, and (extra)bloated Vista, we have the last service pack expected for Windows XP.  Due to be released next week, this service pack is over two years overdue.

What will SP3 do for you?  I’m still unclear about that. Many seem to expect to get some of the security and speed features from Vista’s recent SP1. CRN says:

“Key features of XP SP3 include: support for Microsoft’s Network Access Protection (NAP); ‘keyless activation’, a time saver that allows IT administrators to install SP3 without entering product keys for each copy; and detection of so-called ‘black hole’ network routers that can interfere with network performance.”

Many speculate that the SP3 available via Bit Torrent is actually going to be the final version, but of course Microsoft is trying to discourage people from installing it (Build 5503).

Pro-Hillary Preacher: Obama is Trash

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Headline on the Drudge Report: **VIDEO** ANTI-OBAMA PASTOR UNLEASHED: ‘HE WAS BORN TRASH’… ‘LONG-LEGGED FREAK’… ‘EMISSARY OF THE DEVIL’

This is a YouTube link.  I happen to have YouTube blocked on my network, but maybe y’all can watch this if you haven’t seen it already.

One question I have is, “What the heck is going on in these “black” churches?”  Obama HUSSEIN  says he found Christ through his preacher, but I can’t imagine a hateful, bigotted, violent man like Jeremiah Williams knowing about or saying anything about Jesus.

Obama HUSSEIN: Liar

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Obama HUSSEIN has condemned some of the things his pastor has said. That’s nice, but what about all the rest of the things the preacher of hate says?  The problem is that we all know that Obama HUSSEIN has been a member of his church for a very long time.  For him to willingly be a part of an anti-american, racist, bigotted, anti-semetic church strongly suggest that Obama’s heart is in accord with the message of hate.  After all, we should safely assume that anyone attending that church is in agreement with the church and its pastor.
