Finally a politician has taken note of what we who live in the Upstate of South Carolina already know: contractors working for the State of South Carolina are putting illegal aliens to work & paying them with taxpayer’s money.  Larry Martin, a senator from Pickens, is demanding the South Carolina Department of Transportation to investigate contractors who are employing illegal aliens for State work.

COLUMBIA — An Upstate senator said Wednesday he wants the state Department of Transportation to investigate the immigration status of employees for the agency’s contractors, following complaints from constituents.

State Sen. Larry Martin of Pickens said some constituents have complained that a company which does work for DOT employs all Hispanic workers.

“I’m going to vigorously insist that all of these contractors with the state DOT be required to follow the law and some type of audit be done, particularly when it appears that a large Hispanic workforce is involved,” Martin said.

“It just makes good sense. They are going to have to treat everybody fairly, and everybody is going to have to play by the same set of rules.”

Also on Wednesday, the CEO of a firm hired to audit Beaufort County businesses said he has found a “significant” amount of questionable immigration documents in his firm’s audit thus far. The audit is the first of private businesses in the state by a government agency.

Andrew Patrick, CEO of Advance Point Global, said his firm has looked at records of about 358 businesses out of approximately 4,000 that operate in the county. He said he found some evidence of Social Security cards used by someone other than the person to whom the number belongs and also permanent residency cards to different people that share the same number.

Patrick said he believes the results of his audit might be indicative of immigration problems statewide, though he said different areas use more immigrants than others.

Debra Durden, an attorney for DOT and the agency’s government liaison, said the agency has no responsibility under the current law for monitoring the hiring practices of its contractors and whether they are following federal immigration laws.

She said the recently passed state immigration law will require companies, including those doing business with government, beginning next year to verify the residency status of any new workers.

Martin said he doesn’t believe agencies have to wait for the new law’s implementation date to insist its contractors follow federal immigration laws. He also suggested that Gov. Mark Sanford issue an executive order that agencies under his control ensure contractors are complying with such laws.

DAWG. Do you remember when you used to want to go to McDonalds? Wildmon pointed out McDonald’s donation of $20,000 to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in exchange for membership in the NGLCC and a seat on the group’s board of directors. The NGLCC lobbies Congress on a wide range of issues, including the promotion of same-sex-marriage.

From the Al AP story: “Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said Obama would have been required to conform to the Defense Department prohibtion of political activity, but that the senator was never told he couldn’t visit the hospital. “

The reason he didn’t visit the injured troops is because he hates them. He hates America. He wants America to be destroyed. Why would he want to condecend to visiting those injured while fighting against Islam?

For proof of how powerful they remain, even in their straitened circumstances, look no further than Majority Leader Harry Reid’s refusal even to allow a vote on an amendment proposed by South Carolina Republican Jim DeMint to bar the two from lobbying in the future. Senator DeMint has threatened to filibuster if his amendment isn’t aired. By itself, the antilobbying provision won’t save the taxpayer from Fan and Fred, but it’s a start.

Democrats are rushing this bill through because of the favors for Fan and Fred and new spending for left-wing activists like Acorn. But the reluctance of many Republicans to look out for taxpayers is harder to comprehend. They’ll get little credit this year for letting the majority Democrats say they did something for “housing,” and GOP voters will blame them for rescuing the irresponsible.

Meantime, the White House and Treasury are betting that this bill will put a floor under the housing market and buoy bank stocks, and thus avoid a deeper financial downturn. The rescue will only delay a housing market bottom, and it may or may not help bank stocks. The one certainty is that taxpayers are assuming a huge new risk.

Let’s face it: our Federal Government is hopelessly corrupt. How long will the working people just sit around as the political elitists rape their incomes over and over again in pursuit of establishing permanent power?
