Yes, the local joke of a “University” has completed a significant step to make itself feel like a legitimate “institution.” By getting accreditation from TRACCS, BJU hopes to end the perennial criticism of its inferior academic structure. While I suppose that this is good news for the school’s many investors, in reality, the accreditation itself is one of the weakest available.
The Greenville News reported that the accreditation was granted based on a “self-study of its academic programs and business operations, documenting hundreds of pages of programs and processes to show the university meets accreditation standards.” How convenient it was that BJU could certify itself!
