Study the Bible: The selfishness of Hezekiah

Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth inTruth in the Bible: The price of selfishness my days. (Isaiah 39:8)

God had delivered Hezekiah from the hand of the Assyrians not once, but twice. Hezekiah was sick unto death, yet God extended his life by fifteen years. Unfortunately, Hezekiah did not learn wisdom, nor did he learn common sense. Even worse, he became selfish and became completely unconcerned about the future of his country. This study in the Bible shows the remarkable consequences of a selfish leader who cared nothing about the future of his family or of his nation.

Foolishness with Babylon

Perhaps feeling invincible after receiving deliverance from the Lord from the Assyrians and from death, Hezekiah had no fear of Babylon. When Meodachbaladan (what’s in a name?), the son of the Babylonian king sent messengers to Hezekiah who foolishly showed them all the treasure and strength of Judah, information that Babylon would use against Judah in the future.

Rebuke by Isaiah

When Isaiah showed up, he asked Hezekiah, “What have they seen in thine house?” The answer was “Everything.” All the secrets of the nation were voluntarily revealed to its enemies.

The prophecy of Isaiah was not surprising: it was common sense. Babylon gained valuable intelligence about Judah which it would use against it. Everything would be taken away. Even Hezekiah’s posterity would become servants to the king of Babylon in his palace.

Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD. And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. (Isaiah 39:6-7)

This study of the Bible shows the shocking disregard for the future by those who care only for their present comfort and peace.

So What?

Hezekiah was remarkably flippant. He didn’t care what would happen in the future. He didn’t even care about what would happen to his sons. All he cared about was that he was OK. He would have peace in his days, so to Hell with everyone in the future.

Sound familiar?

Present-day Americans are victims of the Hezekiah mentality. For decades, our parents’ generation allowed our internal and external enemies to run roughshod over them. There was no secret that was not revealed to them and they betrayed their unwillingness to fight or to stand on principle. Even that generation of Americans that many call “The Greatest,” gave the nation away to progressives, socialists and communists without even a whimper.

They sat by as evil men and women were placed as judges and justices in American courts. They sat by as evil men and women took over American academia. They sat by as evil and perverse men and women took over our financial system. They sat by and did nothing as the nation was sold into slavery to China, Russia, Japan and other foreign taskmasters. They sat by as the illegal and unconstitutional Federal Reserve printed money by the billions and trillions, devaluing their labor and eroding their wealth.

They sat idle as traitors like LBJ, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and both George Bush’s gave our jobs and our security to the Mexicans and Chinese. They sat by as the Russians and Chinese stole and bought all our military secrets and technologies which we paid for with money borrowed from them. They sat by as wicked politicians inked contracts with public unions that would soon bankrupt our states and our nation through unsustainable pensions and other benefits.

They continue to sit on their hands as evil men and women deliberately send this nation down the path of financial ruin and forced servitude.

Why?

Because they didn’t care. As long as they had peace, as long as they had prosperity, as long as everything was cool for them, they were OK. They didn’t give a hoot about their children and grandchildren who now face slavery at the hands of modern Babylonians. They were “great,” but they didn’t give a flyin’ rip about us. They wouldn’t fight for what’s right. They told us not to fight for what’s right. They said to change things at the ballot box, but the ballots are just as fraudulent and corrupt as the politicians listed therein.

Now we have to pay the price for their peace and prosperity. Shame on them, just as much as their was shame on Hezekiah.
